Why another church in Barrhaven?
Most of the people who started Reconnect live in Barrhaven. We believe that church should be a local initiative, something near home, maybe something you can walk to. There are so many new homes in the Chapman Mills area that St. Emily Catholic School seemed like a great place to start a church with Chapman Mills and the rest of Barrhaven in mind. With about 55,000 people calling Barrhaven home, we think there's room for many new churches.

What makes you different?
We don't set out to be different. A church is simply a collection of people who believe that there is a God, that Jesus was his son, and that we can enjoy life with God in it more than without. If we're different than your idea of church, that might be because the people who are involved at Reconnect are different.

What do you believe?
We believe that that there is one God, who was the architect of all creation. His son's name is Jesus, and after Jesus died and was resurrected, God sent his Holy Spirit to help those that Jesus couldn't, while here in person. We believe that we are part of Jesus' larger following around the world-much larger than you would expect, given his 3 years of telling people stories about taxes and sheep, and then getting himself executed for blasphemy. We believe that we can get to know him, and that we can experience a better life in doing so. We believe that doubt is a fantastic start to a long conversation with God, and that no one is beyond hope. We believe that in some cases, black and white is best left in newspapers and on zebras. We also believe in taking a stand now and then, and not giving an inch. In short, you might want to come and find out for yourself.

I don't believe in God. Do you mind if I come?
Not only do we not mind, but you're a big part of why we meet together. Often, people who believe in God don't challenge each other enough. We grow complacent. We stop thinking, or at least, we slow down. Atheists, agnostics, and others who don't toe the party line are welcome to be part of our community for as long or as short as you like.

What do you do for your community?
In a compound word - face painting. Reconnect hasn't been around for long, but we have partnered with Ross' Independent for a couple of events. Twice, face painting for kids was involved, and there was also a free wrapping paper giveaway during Christmas 2007. We're into things like hosting a small block party with free food and drinks for the people in the immediate area around the school where we meet. As we grow, so will our opportunities for helping out.

What can I expect on a Sunday morning?
It varies, but in general, some live music, a place for your kids to have supervised fun (infant - 7), the occasional video clip, some thought-provoking discussions, and a timely break. Some of us enjoy the break the most, because the coffee is above average, the bran cookies taste better than one would suspect, and the conversation usually gets past the weather.
