Giving

We were reluctant to even put a page like this online, given the (too often well-deserved) stereotypes associated with churches and money.  At the same time, we believe that if God is moving towards the centre of our lives, that there should be some impact on how we spend our $$$.

Reconnect has been intentionally set up in such a way as to minimize many of the costs normally associated with running a church, such as building costs (we rent space) and staff salaries (part-time only).  Why?  Our goal is to be a church that is more able to help our community in tangible ways while at the same time being able to "do our thing".

Where do we get our $$$ from?  Most of our support comes from individuals who believe in what we're doing and what we want to accomplish (see Our Vision and Our Values).  We are also supported in part by some generous like-minded churches.  Our goal is to be financially "self-supportive", meaning that we would be able to help others, look after ourselves, and support other small churches just starting out, too.  But one thing at a time :)

Up until this point the only way for someone to give towards what we're doing has been to put something in the blue box on Sunday (must be seen to be fully appreciated) or to send in a donation by mail.  However, we're pleased to announce that giving online is now a possibility, through www.canadahelps.org.  Simply go to their mainpage and search for "Kawartha Community Church" (see KCC for why), and follow the instructions from that point.  Be sure to put "Reconnect" or "Ottawa" in the Message field, and you're all set.  Please keep in mind that Canada Helps has a user fee of 3% (very generous, by the way), meaning that 3% of what you give through them goes to them.  (That's a not-so-subtle plug for coming on a Sunday and using the blue box to give - plus you can have a free cookie.)  All giving, whether online or in church on a Sunday or sent in through the mail, is tax-receiptable at the end of the year.

One more note on giving: we're all too well aware that times are tough for many people right now.  Please don't give money you don't have (i.e. run up a balance on your credit card that you can't pay off at the end of the month).  On the other hand, our pledge to you is that we treat what you give as a responsibility that we take very seriously: to spend wisely doing what's important.
